Did you know Mid-City has internships?
Meet Grace Brethel. She is currently interning with our BIM department! This fall, she will be going into her fifth and final year of studying Environmental Engineering at the University of Cincinnati, and her last of five co-op sessions. In the past, she has co-oped for three semesters with AECOM as a Wastewater Intern in Columbus and Cincinnati, where she designed sewer systems and worked on the integration of Green Infrastructure. As part of her responsibilities, she was trained in 3D modeling and mapping programs, which made her a great fit for the BIM Intern position here at Mid-City
Prior to this semester, she co-oped for Turner Construction as an Engineering Assistant at the Duke Energy Operations Center in Colerain, Ohio. “Having the opportunity to work for an engineering firm, general contractor, and now a specialty contractor has allowed me to gain perspective on how each player affects the team as a whole” Grace said.
Grace’s career goals are to continue to gain knowledge of the engineering and construction industry that integrates her passion for sustainable practices. After working on a construction site and seeing the importance of BIM documents and an engaged design team, Grace was excited to work with BIM herself. “I am looking forward to gaining more experience with 3D modeling in a different aspect of construction” Grace said. “BIM and computer modeling are huge aspects of the engineering industry and are up and coming in terms of integration in projects and into college education. I am looking forward to gaining experience before I go into the workforce. I’m eager to learn more about the electrical aspect of the industry and look forward to learning from the BIM team.”
Some of Grace’s favorite Columbus activities are walking around Antrim park with friends or family, or grabbing a delicious smoothie bowl from Zest, or a creamy scoop of ice cream from Graeter’s. (Same, Grace, same!)
