Mid-City hires BIM Operator Kevin Hord

Kevin Hord - MidCity - Columbus, Ohio

Mid-City welcomes a new member to the BIM department! Kevin Hord has joined our team as BIM operator, and will be working to create drawings and models that will guide our team’s installations in the field.

Kevin comes to Mid-City with an extensive background in engineering. Formerly a mechanical designer at PHPK Technologies for over 12 years, he has spent the past decade designing vacuum jacketed cryogenic pipe routings for various clients nationwide. “I started as a draftsman right out of college, and I worked my way up to putting together proposals, schedules, and eventually, taking on some small to mid-size project management roles,” Kevin said. After his time at PHPK, he took a position as a senior designer at Vertiv, a data center manufacturer here in Columbus. “While there, I learned a lot about data centers and what keeps them ticking,” Kevin said.

As a BIM operator, Kevin will create visual representations of our electrical and teledata systems that will inform they way our equipment and devices like conduit runs, cable tray, and bus duct come to life in the field.  “Our drawings make sure that our systems and equipment are in the correct location and make sure there is a correct count of everything needed for the job,” Kevin said.

Kevin attended Marion Technical College, where he received his Associates Degree in Structural Design in 2005. Initially, he wanted to be an architect growing up. “I enjoy seeing the bones of the building and all the hidden things that help keep the building running everyday that a typical person doesn’t get to see when they walk into a beautiful new or redesigned space,” Kevin said. “They see the outside beauty, but you have a totally new appreciation for the industry when you see the whole process of a building being built from the ground up.”
