Damon Clement is the newest project manager and estimator to join Mid-City Electric.
A Dayton, Ohio native, Damon began his career in construction as a landscaper, and decided to make the change to the electrical trades as a way to transition out of the seasonal profession. His uncle was an HVAC contractor and encouraged him to explore the commercial skilled trades more. Taking his advice, he applied for a local electrical apprenticeship program and started on his path towards becoming a commercial electrician. At Mid-City, Damon will be responsible for bidding and managing projects of varying sizes and markets.
Bill Brethel, director of operations, said, Damon’s diverse experience is going to benefit our group of estimators and project managers. We are excited to see what he can do on upcoming projects.
After his apprenticeship, Damon went on to work with both residential and commercial contractors. One of his supervisors told him that the Dayton Independent Electrical Contractor Chapter was in need of additional instructors, allowing Damon to discover an interest that he didn’t know he had teaching. I kind of fell in love with teaching, Damon said. After that, he taught many courses for Sinclair Community College, Kaplan College, and Hocking College including fire alarm, Ohm’s Law, conduit bending, and the national electrical code. I enjoyed working with the students. Teaching them a trade and helping them to achieve their career goals was very rewarding, Damon said.
In addition to completing the apprenticeship program, Damon also earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Wright State University in 2004, and his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Kaplan University in 2012. During his free time, he enjoys participating in Cub Scouts with his sons, as well as camping, hiking, fishing, and traveling. He is also an avid supporter of Habitat for Humanity and enjoys volunteering with them when he can.
A big welcome goes out to Damon from all of us here at Mid-City! We are excited to work with you and happy you have joined the team.
