Meet our newest BIM Coordinator, Scott Ankrom. Scott comes to Mid-City with a background in construction and building information modeling. He is a graduate of Columbus State with an Associate’s Degree in Architecture. Although only here a few months, Scott is already a huge asset to our BIM and project manager department with his technical knowledge and eagerness to learn. Welcome to Mid-City Scott! We’re excited to have you on board! Below are five quick questions that will help you get to know Scott a bit better:
Q: What sparked your interest in construction or in your current role?
A: I was always interested in construction as a kid. I think where I really got interested in the drafting side of construction was in shop class in high school. They had a CNC machine and a 3D printer that used CAD, and I was able to get familiar with it. I found that I really liked it.
Q: What is the most memorable project that you have ever worked on? Why?
A: I used to work for a greenhouse design and manufacturing company in their structures department. It was the first time I fully relied on 3D drawing to get shop drawings. That is where I became really interested in 3D drafting.
Q: What will your role here at Mid-City involve?
A: I will be doing layout, design, coordination, and putting together design documents in the BIM department.
Q: From your point of view as a BIM operator, how is construction changing? What trends are you seeing?
A: Starting in the design process, a lot of trades are transitioning from 2D design to 3D design. Fabrication processes are changing also. I am seeing a lot of companies try to do as much prefabrication in their shops as they can. It saves time and money.
Q: What do you do outside of Mid-City? (like a fun fact!)
A: My family and I travel a lot, with random weekend trips and vacations throughout the U.S.
I would recommend Alaska as a trip for anyone trying to figure out their next vacation. There are a ton of amazing sights!
