As part of a plan to create a major data analytics department at The Ohio State University campus, the school is performing major renovations to Pomerene and Oxley Halls.
A historical renovation, the design teams aim to blend classic university character with modern ascetics and technology in both buildings to accommodate the needs of Ohio State’s new program. Additionally, the project team is performing a complete renovation to Baker Commons as well.
Mid-City Electric was selected as the Design Assist contractor for both renovations. As the design assist contractor, Mid-City is the electrical and teledata partner for all preconstruction, design, and construction phases. The project began with an extensive design process in October 2015. Construction is expected to reach completion in Spring 2017 for Oxley Hall, while Pomerene will wrap up in Spring 2018.
Construction for Pomerene Hall, which is located next to Mirror Lake and was OSU’s first women’s student union, is a total renovation to the existing facility. Construction is comprised of a completely new electrical service building-wide, the addition of a third-floor generator room, a sophisticated LED lighting system, and audio visual, security, and fire alarm systems on every floor. Mid-City’s teledata team is installing a cable tray system as well.
At Oxley Hall, originally the first women’s dorm, Mid-City is performing a similar renovation that will completely remodel the existing space that sits next to Wexner Medical Center. The power distribution is undergoing extensive upgrades. Every floor will be illuminated by new LED lighting, and equipped with new fire alarm, security, and audio visual systems similar to Pomerene Hall. Mid-City technicians are installing a cable a tray system in Oxley Hall as well.
