Scope of Work

Mid-City Electric was instrumental in the delivery of the New University Hospital, a transformative inpatient expansion for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Designed to support long term growth, flexibility, and advanced patient care, this landmark facility serves as a cornerstone of OSU’s future campus development.

The hospital tower spans approximately 1.85 million gross square feet across 26 stories and includes 820 private patient rooms supporting intensive care, progressive care, and specialized women’s and infants services. The facility also features 24 operating rooms, 10 interventional radiology suites, and a comprehensive range of diagnostic, treatment, and support spaces.

The technology infrastructure supporting this facility is extensive. The project includes more than 25,000 data ports, approximately 900 miles of horizontal cabling, 59 technology rooms, over 6,400 connected devices, and 20 miles of fiber optic cabling—creating a robust backbone for mission-critical clinical systems and future expansion.

Mid-City partnered with Superior to install both electrical and technology systems throughout the tower, delivering a coordinated and scalable approach across multiple scopes of work.

In addition, Mid-City held a separate contract with The Ohio State University to support Data Talk through the installation of the Rauland Nurse Call system, a critical patient communication platform integrated throughout the hospital. The Nurse Call scope included the installation of 1,778 corridor lights, 982 patient stations, 124 nurse station consoles, and approximately 400,000 feet of cabling. This work required close coordination with clinical stakeholders and trade partners to ensure system reliability and seamless integration.

Through its partnership with Superior, Mid City executed significant electrical work, including the installation of all branch power and lighting for floors 1 through 5, as well as the complete buildout of operating rooms across those levels. The team also installed the fire alarm system throughout the entire tower, integrating it with the existing hospital infrastructure, and completed the loading dock and site lighting scope—further enhancing the facility’s functionality and safety.

This project highlights Mid City’s ability to successfully execute within complex healthcare environments, manage multiple contract structures, and collaborate closely with partners such as Superior, owners, and specialty vendors to deliver reliable, high-performance systems that directly support patient care.
